Press: New fan-and-filter unit output category

By developing a new output category of its TopTherm fan-and-filter units, Rittal offers switchgear manufacturers and users even more opportunities for efficiently and safely ventilating enclosures. The manufacturer is extending its current TopTherm generation of fan-and-filter units by adding a new air throughput class of 900 m3/h, equipped with energy efficient EC (Electronic Commutation) technology.

Just like the present series, this innovation makes use of diagonal fan technology (air throughput ranging from 20 to 700 m3/h) - a synthesis of radial and axial fan technology. This technology is characterised by the fact that the air outlet direction is not, as before, in the fan's axial direction but instead diagonally to the outside. This favours an even distribution of air within the enclosure, so preventing the formation of hot spots.

In addition to the flat design, the key benefits are the steeper curve and the higher pressure resistance. As a result of this, the system has an improved pressure stability and - when installed and operating - it provides a greater and more constant air flow over a wide area. This in turn means an increased operating life for the filter mats without having to settle for any loss of power in return.

To ensure greater security for the climate control of enclosures, the new TopTherm filter fan can be monitored and regulated via an optional eco-control unit. Benefit: In the event of a fan defect, an error message is actively triggered via the fan's tacho signal. This makes it possible to react in good time, before the internal temperature in the enclosure has increased. The temperature-independent speed control also permits climate control when needed and thus greater energy efficiency.

Due to their completely tool-free assembly, the fan-and-filter units are simple to install, and the air flow direction can be changed quickly. Electrical connections can be easily made, and maintenance, including filter mat replacement, is trouble-free.

To improve performance, several fan-and-filter units can be seamlessly bayed to one another without leaving any disturbing gaps. There is also a choice of 230 VAC 50/60 Hz and 115 VAC 50/60 Hz supply voltage. The fan-and-filter unit's protection category can be increased from IP 51 to IP 56 by using a hose-proof hood. An EMC version is also available.
