25 August 2011 marks a milestone in the relationship between Rittal and Enercon, the wind turbine manufacturer: On this day, Enercon installed its hundred thousandth Rittal type TS 8 enclosure in Aurich. Reason enough for a ceremony in which Ulrich Neundlinger, managing director of Enercon subsidiaries Elektric Schaltanlagenfertigung, manufacturer of switchgear, praised the excellent cooperation between the two companies that has existed 2003: "Rittal is not only an important technology partner for Enercon." Rittal is also a partner in our green logistics program. After all, most TS 8 enclosures from Rittal arrive in an environmentally friendly way - by rail."
The 100,000 TS 8 enclosures that Rittal has delivered since 2003 house the control components in Enercon's wind turbines. Hidden in the towers and nacelles of the wind turbines are, for example, frequency converters to adapt the systems to different power grids or the central control unit, controlling the optimal arrangement of the rotor blades.
Enercon installs around 300 large enclosures per week in its wind turbines. The company, based in Aurich, Germany, has erected more than 18,000 wind turbines worldwide. In terms of installed capacity, Enercon is Germany's market leader and the world's number five.
"Enercon is one of our largest and most important customers," said Bernd Eckel, Rittal's President Sales International, referring to the partnership with the wind turbine maker. "For Rittal as a system supplier, renewable energies are an important 'target market' and we effectively provide support our global partners such as Enercon with the special expertise that we have developed."
In terms of renewable energy, Rittal is not only present with its products in the wind energy business. The company is also a major supplier for the solar energy industry. For example, Rittal system solutions protect the sensitive electronic components in photovoltaic units, such as central inverters. Rittal's enclosures, climate control and IT infrastructure solutions are also widely used in biomass, hydropower and geothermal energy applications.
